On 31 October, Mannix Manglani, CEO of MNX Online, served on the jury at the closing ceremony of the 1st IndesIA Datathon for the Canary Islands, a pioneering initiative aimed at accelerating the islands’ digital transformation through Artificial Intelligence applied to the productive fabric.

The event took place at the ULPGC Science and Technology Park (Gran Canaria) and was hosted by Jezabel Artiles, a journalist specialising in technology and science communication.
Organised by the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI) in collaboration with the Canary Islands Institute of Technology (ITC) and IndesIA, this pilot brought together six Canary companies that, over four days, worked side by side with technology partners and specialised mentors to shape an AI-based solution.

Purpose-driven AI: real challenges, viable solutions
The final session focused on presenting the results achieved by the participating teams. Each team addressed a concrete challenge —defined by the Canary company— and received technical support from an AI expert partner. The solutions showed a remarkable level of maturity, covering areas such as scientific tourism, health and internal process automation.
The six company–partner pairs were:
- ATECRE, S.A. + TURING
Challenge: Corporate knowledge AI assistant - PLOCAN + ALTIA
Challenge: Digital tracking and gamification of scientific tourism - CEAMED + PUEDATA
Challenge: AI to generate new antibiotics - OSTEOBIONIX + DESIC
Challenge: Automatic identification of bone anatomical landmarks to assist orthopaedic implant design - AEROTECNO PRODUCCIONES DRONES GOMERA + TCM SPAIN
Challenge: Multispectral layer analysis in Garajonay National Park - ACJ, S.A. + BAOBAB SOLUCIONES
Challenge: AI-driven optimisation of the purchasing process

OsteoSense, the winning project
Following the pitches, the jury assessed each proposal against criteria such as feasibility, creativity, ethical and responsible use of AI, presentation, business impact potential and user experience.
The winning team was OSTEOBIONIX + DESIC with OsteoSense, a solution that applies AI to support orthopaedic implant design through automatic analysis of anatomical landmarks. A proposal with strong clinical value, scalability and clear market transfer.
MNX Online’s role at the final
Our CEO, Mannix Manglani, served on the jury alongside leading professionals from the Canary innovation ecosystem: Ana Torrent (CET), Ginés León (TITSA), Víctor Díaz (Official College of Telecommunications) and Nuria Ávalos (Managing Director, IndesIA).

We are grateful for the invitation to take part in this first Datathon in the Canary Islands. For MNX Online, it recognises the specialisation and commitment we bring to driving technological innovation from the islands. These initiatives showcase local talent, encourage a collaborative culture and help forge alliances towards a digital transformation closely connected to the needs of our territory.
